Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation Donates $500,000 to American Cancer Society Hope Lodge
Donation brings Hope Lodge Fundraising to nearly $12 million
Salt Lake City—March 25, 2013— The American Cancer Society is pleased to announce that the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation has donated $500,000 towards efforts to build a Hope Lodge in Utah. The Hope Lodge will offer complimentary accommodations for cancer patients and their caregivers who travel to Salt Lake for treatment.
“There are very few people who have not been affected by cancer; it doesn’t discriminate,” said Jay K. Francis Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Miller Family Philanthropy for the Larry H. Miller Group of Companies said. “The Miller family realizes that cancer not only affects individuals, but their loved ones as well. Having a safe and comfortable, no-cost place to stay while visiting Salt Lake City, is something that the Miller family firmly supports.”
The Hope Lodge, which will be located at 100 S. and 400 E. in downtown Salt Lake City, hopes to serve residents from the Intermountain West and all others who may be traveling to Salt Lake for premiere cancer treatment. The $500,000 donation brings The Lodge campaign to nearly $12 million of the $18 million required to build.
“We are extremely grateful to the Miller Family Foundation for providing this generous donation,” said Pam Higginson, Vice President/Hope Lodge Campaign Director at the American Cancer Society. “This is a great help in moving the Hope Lodge efforts forward and will benefit many of those individuals fighting cancer both inside and outside the Salt Lake area.”
“The Miller Family is pleased to be a part of Hope Lodge,” said Francis. “This will be one burden and expense that will be lifted from families in need.”
